Paul Klee once explained that “a drawing is simply a line going for a walk”.
Too often drawing is considered secondary to painting and presumed not to have merit but for Janet the process of drawing allows for a greater freedom, spontaneity, tactility and intimacy.
In her pieces, which are predominantly based on the drawn image, she uses various media and works in both contemporary and traditional styles.
Janet is an exhibiting artist in Sydney and the Blue Mountains and now resides in the Sutherland Shire. Classically trained with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, she has also studied Art History and Design, attended numerous workshops and courses and has been committed to life drawing classes over a long period.
She has been selected and exhibited in major and regional art shows for many years, sold a number of paintings and won awards. Some of these include:
1st Prize Outstanding Student Works on Paper at University of Western Sydney, 1st Prize at the Autumn Artfest, 1st Prize Blackheath Rhododendron Festival, 1st Prize Fairfield City Council. 2nd Prize at the Hawkesbury Agricultural Show.
Acquisitions include UWS Drawing Collection and Fairfield City Council.
Janet is a member of both the Sutherland Shire and Continuum Art Societies and her work is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas.
