Elizabeth Coleman
Liz Coleman was born in Nelson, New Zealand. She loved art and music from an early age and won prizes, competitions, and exhibited in the South Island Art Exhibition while at Secondary School. Her Grandmother, an oil painter and pianist, was one of her early mentors who gave her encouragement. Liz completed her piano studies achieving her Associate and Licentiate Diplomas with Trinity College, London, and became a school teacher in Christchurch, New Zealand.
After her marriage to Allan in 1972, and coming to Australia, Liz lived and taught in the Sutherland Shire and St George area. Busy years followed, with raising a son and a daughter and being a ‘working mum’. Liz faced her biggest hurdle early in 2001 with a serious illness and near blindness. Unable to work for over two years and having to sit back and ‘smell the roses;’ while recovering, Liz had time to plan out a different future.
She went back to University full-time, and did Post Graduate studies in TESOL, completed Certificate 1V in Training and Assessment, and enrolled in art courses at Hazelhurst Arts Centre. |
