Acrylics Classes 1pm to 4pm

Acrylics painting classes by Gwen Powning are held in the hall at Jannali on the 3rd and 4th Wednesday of each month. The lessons are free however you will need to pay the normal hall entry fee of $5 which covers hall hire and afternoon tea. To attend you must be a member.

Workshops

One day workshops 9am to 4pm are held several times a year, generally at the Port Hacking Community Hall, 184 Gannons Road South, Caringbah (almost to the southern end). Watch for information on this site and in the bi-monthly newsletter. Get there a little before 9am to get a good spot and have time to set up.

On Wednesday 9 June the workshop will feature Dave Thomas who will teach portraiture in oils. Dave has a unique method of painting terrific portraits which achieve a true likeness. If you follow his method you will too. Make sure you don't miss this class. The second tutor will be well known Sydney artist John Perkins who will demonstrate his professional traditional style in oils. This event will cost $50 for members and $60 for non-members. In Dave's class there will be an extra charge of $4 per person to cover the supply of a board to paint on. This board will have on it the outline and features of the face you will be painting to save time and make it easier to get a good likeness.

This will be the last workshop for this year.

Life Classes 1pm to 4pm

Life Classes are held on some of the 5th Fridays in the month when they occur during the year. Professional models are hired and the cost is $10. Poses start at 30 seconds and build up to 20 minutes to improve your drawing skills. Work in whatever medium you like. A common choice is charcoal on large sheets of cheap paper such as butchers' paper.

The next activity is on Wednesday 31 March 2010, 1pm to 4pm and our model will be Amanda. I recommend that participants get there about 12.30pm so that they can set up before the model arrives. We have to stop the activity at 3.30pm so we can pack up before the next hall user arrives. This is a great activity to develop your drawing and observation skills so please come along and enjoy the occasion. The next event is not until 30 June 2010 so do not miss this occasion.

Paint-a-thon Art Workshop 9am to 4pm

The society holds an annual Paint-a-thon in October. This activity is always well attended. Well known, sought after tutors hold lessons in each genre over the two day period. Watch for information on this site and in the bi-monthly newsletter.

Critiques

Periodically a well respected artist is brought in to critique members' artwork. The cost is $5 for members. This is a great opportunity to learn as you see how your work as well as that of others can be improved. Watch for information on this site and in the bi-monthly newsletter.
